Holiday Wear – Glitter, Sequins, and Lace, Oh My!
Holiday season is upon us…which means it’s time to stock up on glam party-wear! From office holiday parties to New Year’s Eve and everything in between, make sure you stand out with some of the fun textures that are associated with the holidays – glitter, sequins, and lace.
Now, for me, I don’t like spending a whole lot of money on items that I will only wear on occasion. I scoured the internet for affordable items that would be great additions to your holiday closet, and I found some great options. I also just want to note – go easy on the glitter and sequins. Stick to one piece, whether it be a dress, a top, or a pair of shoes. Too much can be distracting and hard to pull off…well, unless you’re Lady Gaga!
Dresses
Dresses are must-haves for the holiday season. In addition to the staple “little black dress,” I found some really fun dresses – and believe it or not, all of the dresses are under $70! Key trend highlights include bright jewel tones (think reds, blues, and purples), sequins, and lace details.

Activewear – Fashionable AND Warm!
Let me start this blog off by saying this: I love being active when I’m not at work, checking out the latest shoe trends. I love running, hiking, camping, biking, outdoor yoga, and just plain sitting on a patio somewhere in Dallas! But this past summer in Dallas was SO brutally hot that it was hard to enjoy any of that. So needless to say, I’m jumping for joy now that November has arrived, along with perfect weather!
Now that it’s cooling down, it’s time for a change in your workout wardrobe. Yes, it is possible to look cute while exercising outside and stay warm at the same time! I am absolutely loving all of the brightcolors on the runway for this fall, and these colors have also translated over into athletic gear. Building a wardrobe for cold-weather workouts can get expensive but luckily I found some really cute items below at a decent price!
First, the key to staying warm while running or exercising outside is layering. I start off with a basic long-sleeve shirt that wicks away moisture – Nike has a wonderful shirt that is lightweight and keeps you dry for only $40! I also pair this with a pair of running leggings – I found a great pair at Target.com for only $21.99 but really, every brand offers a pair of similar leggings so you can find these anywhere.
Fall 2011 Trend – Boots
Now that the weather is finally cooling down, it’s time to stock up on one of my favorite accessories of the season – boots! There are SO many types of boots (and outfits!) out there, it’s hard to pick just one. Thankfully, we don’t have to.
Boots can carry expensive price-tags, but you can consider them investment pieces. You will definitely be able to wear these multiple seasons, and mix-and-match them with many types of outfits – so no need to worry about getting your money’s worth out of them. I’ll still try to help you find the best deal, though!
Riding Boots
One trend that has been here for some time now is the riding boot. They can easily be paired with denim, or worn with a dress. I think Steve Madden and Madden Girl offer a great selection of casual, trendy riding boots at affordable prices. Check out this style that I absolutely love:

Fall 2011 Trend – Color Blocking
For those of you who feel bummed about the lack of color in your wardrobe once fall rolls around, I have good news – color is here to stay! From shoes to bright colored dresses to colored denim, color has continued to heat up the fall runways.
“Color blocking” is the term when several bold colors are paired up together in an outfit. This trend was first introduced in the spring, and luckily continues through the fall. See below for examples of color blocking from fall’s runways:

“Budget” is a scary word for a lot of us. We equate living on a budget to not spending money. While this may be true in some cases, often times it just means being smarter with your money. Luckily, thanks to the internet, budget fashionistas are able to find runway looks for less – I absolutely love it when I can find a good deal AND look trendy at the same time!
A huge trend for this fall is the vintage-inspired menswear look. From preppy oxfords to platform loafer pumps, this trend means mixing feminine details with traditionally masculine style. This trend can be seen from footwear to wide leg trousers to blazers, and I’m loving it!
As far as shoes are concerned, oxfords and heeled loafers are everywhere this fall. I found a fantastic little lace-up oxford from designer Elie Tahari, sold at Bloomingdales. Super cute, but I was bummed when I saw the price tag – $448! Luckily, Nine West offers a similar shoe called the Arnell that originally retails for $99.
